This is another post on the activities held at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) in Lewisburg, West Virginia. But first, I would like to give you a brief history of this theatre.
Greenbrier Valley Theatre started its 1966 productions in a tent alongside the Greenbrier River. After performing in various borrowed spaces, a temporary structure was erected in 1976 near the Greenbrier Valley Airport . The facility, was known to the community as The Barn, was funded by the Benedum Foundation and built by dedicated volunteers.
In 1994, a building was purchased in downtown Lewisburg. Once renovations were completed, in 2000 GVT opened the doors to a state-of-the-art facility. Greenbrier Valley Theatre has enjoyed the support of a loyal community whose nurturing has developed a vigorous, professional organization with a vision to establish GVT as a significant regional performing theatre. In March 2006 GVT became West Virginia's Official Year-Round Professional Theatre.
This past Sunday, my husband, Claude, and I enjoyed the evening at GVT to see "A Broadway Christmas Carol", created by Kathy Feninger. The play mixes Dickens' classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge with side-splitting song parodies of Broadway tunes.
Three actors playing multiple roles performed the entire story at break-neck speed. The actors were Bryonna Parham, Tommy Schoffler, and Michael Sharp. Their singing, dancing, and acting were superb. The play was energetic and hilarious. This was a great alternative to traditional holiday fare, and was the perfect entertainment to leave you in an upbeat holiday mood.
If you plan to visit Lewisburg, WV, in the Greenbrier County, be sure to visit the Theatre, and enjoy the plays and concerts. Greenbrier Valley Theatre is a live-performance theatre and much more. The Theatre is involved in all aspects of the arts and humanities, with people of all ages.
