eating nutritional

Sherry Sutterby, a Wellness Educator, will be showing a documentary of a school system in Wisconsin that began to make changes in the school food program and in the end changed a community!  Handouts and other information will be provided.  Kay Davis from Cooperative Extension will discuss the new configuration of the food pyramid to help people with portion control and food choices.

This program is part of a program and advocacy group started by Nancy Zobel at The Tutoring Center on Lafayette Street in Lewisvburg!  She and Erma Jean McKinney, a retired teacher, are the engines behind providing information and help to parents of children with special needs.  They are especially focused on children with autism and other related issues.

The program for Saturday is to begin to bring alternative ideas on food choices with the long term goal of improving health and behavior to perhaps change lives one person at a time!  Sherry Sutterby hopes to counsel families individually or in groups and provide additional workshops of interest.  In October, she will conduct a program educating people on the dangers of chemicals in everyday cleaning products.

The monthly workshops are free and open to the public and focus on how parents can help their children be all that they can be in life.

We need more parenting programs like this.  What a great resource for your community.

Sounds like a wonderful program, and our children really need help today in nutritional education.  It starts with parents and giving children a chance to be healthy by teaching them what to eat is a noble cause with long term benefits.

Rebecca - this is a wonderful idea and there should be more opportunities like this. The more you read about nutrition, the more you understand what a tremendous impact it has, and so many just have no idea. As a parent I think it's especially important to consider what we are doing for our children.

Thanks for sharing this.

What a great asset for the families in your community these classes will be. The October class on the dangers of chemicals in cleaning products sounds really interesting too. I think we really get caught up in advertising and don't realize how much junk we bring into our homes and environment.

Joan, I also think this is a great resource...thanks for stopping by!

Jeanne, yes good nutrition really does start at home; and some parents really need to be educated to help the children.

Jeff, Amen to that!

Joe, ha, I am sure we could all benefit from this program.

Lee & Carol, I agree the October class will be intersting and I hope to attend this one.

Rebecca, lets hope people take advantage of the workshops and practice what they learn...we have a society where too many people are obese.

I hope they have a HUGE turnout for this FREE Nutrition workshop!

Hi Rebecca,

I agree with Joni...  I hope this event will be well received and have a huge turn out.  With today's busy life style fast food has become a norm for so many families.  There are so many good things to eat that don't take a long time to fix and can also be great for handy left overs or a healthy quick meal that can be prepared ahead of time.

Great localism and community post!

Rebecca....This is a great project.....It is so overlooked and so important....most don't realize it until they are older....Nice post!
Hope you have a great weekend! ---Rob

Hi Rebecca,

This sounds like a great workshop for parents.  Poor eating really can lead to behavioral issues and a lifetime of bad eating habits.

Rebecca, this is a great workshop offered!    I heard on the news that the government was contemplating removing obese children from households --- and maybe if they had some education, this would be less of an issue.

Ellen, so true and I see a lot of obese people and do feel sorry for them.

Joni, I do hope so.

Linda, so true. I have lost ten pounds since my bout with my gall bladder. Really watching what I eat.

Rob, thanks and I hope it is a big success.

Roger, yes so much to be learned if people would just listen.

Lisa, so, so true!

Joan, YES education is definitely the key to better health.
