I never learned how to ski as a child. So, my husband planned a ski weekend at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort in West Virginia.
So, I had my first ski lesson when I was 35 and was practicing on the "bunny" trail. Needless to say, I was persuaded to go down one of the bigger trails. Now I was okay until we actually stood at the top and looking down....OMG, I was terrified. But, hey, down the slope I went....falling every five feet. Men, women, AND children were skiing right past me. It was not fun!
The one thing I learned to do VERY well......was how to get up after falling soooo many times...I was told that was the hardest part. Really!! I was so mad at myself for falling so much, I started to cry, then stopped and said this mountain is not going to beat me. To tell the truth I didn't think I would ever get to the bottom of the mountain. By the time I got to the bottom...about an hour later...no kidding....I was exhausted.
Needless to say, the next day I could hardly walk. My ankles were so swollen I couldn't get the ski boots on...not to mention my sore back, legs and yeah my butt. That, my friends, is the first and last time I put on a pair of skis.
Unlike me, if you like to ski...like most people around here, then Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort is the place to go. Snowshoe also provides ski lessons and guarantee you will ski top to bottom in two days, or your lessons are free.
Depending on your stay, there are several lodging accommodation options including Snowshoe hotels, condos, cabins, as well as private town homes to mountaintop chalets. Throughout the years, we have stayed at each of the accommodations, and found them all very nice.

Snowshoe has some great package deals, and are offering a $200.00 gift card when you stay four or more nights between February 15th and the end of the season, April 5.
Perhaps I should try this sport again.....nah, nada...no way!!!! I'll just watch from inside near the cozy fireplace, perhaps go shopping, or enjoy a total body rejuvenation at the Tuscan Spa and Salon. Sounds wonderful....
Snowshoe Mountain is located in the heart of Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Being one of the highest elevated counties in the East and set in the middle of the Monongahelia National Forest, Pocahontas County offers the perfect location for unmatched outdoor wilderness activities.
Happy Skiing at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort!

At one point, I remember falling, tumbling and landing on my back, legs in the air, with only one ski on. Snow was down in my snowsuit, I was tired and ready to scream....memories....ouch and brrrrr...:)
Rebecca your first time sounds like my first time. (skiing) Hence me never being on skis again. I am perfectly happy to sleighride, ice skate and anything else but I am definitely not meant for skiing. Glad you weren't hurt!
Debra...I like and enjoy the snow, except for skiing.
Rebecca - Sounds just like my first and last time - many years ago in Tahoe. I ended up coming down on my butt, and waited for everyone else in the lodge with a hot toddy... That was more like it!

Same thing happened to me, but was during my skiing lessons, I fell got very angry b/c the instructor would not help me up, int he meantime I am tossing around on the ground like a fish out of water, he said he wouldn't be with me on the slopes if I fell I needed to learn to get up on my own, that is when the ski's came off and I enjoyed my time in the lodge! Stubborn yes, I would like to try again...Coincidentally it was @ Snowshoe...I was born and raised in West Virginia (outside of Beckley) I miss the SNOW! Maybe I will try again....one day....
Have a Blessed weekend!
Sharon
Rebbecca I never even give it a try, I took one look at the descend you have to make and said no way. However I have many friends who enjoy this type of an activity and that's wonderful. I prefer sitting inside with a cup of hot cocoa
I skied very briefly when I came to the States. Loved it, but hate the cold and the falling. I think the last time I skied whas when I broke my middle finger. Enough said.
