Take the Train, Relax and Enjoy the Beautiful Scenery - White Sulphur Springs, WV

Take the train, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery I told my friends.  And, that is exactly what they are going to do.  My friends in Alexandria, Virginia, are planning to take the train from Union Station in Washington, DC, to White Sulphur Springs this Fall.

Amtrak Cardinal Route

The Amtrak’s Cardinal Line originates in New York and goes to Chicago.  The train from Union Station to White Sulphur Springs, WV, operates three days a week --  Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday (both east and west bound).  Departing Union Station at 11:10 am, and arriving in White Sulphur Springs at 5:00 pm.

The Cardinal offers unforgettable views of the Southeast's stunning natural beauty. You'll see gently rolling horse country, the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley, and the wild white-water rivers of West Virginia as they can only be seen by train.

Choose a wide, comfortable Reserved Coach seat, or make reservations for Sleeper Service accommodations.  Complete meals, sandwiches, snacks and beverages are served in the Dinette.

The train stops at 315 West Main Street, at the Christmas Depot Shop and right across the street from the main entrance of the Greenbrier Hotel.  While waiting for the train or just arriving in White Sulphur Springs, be sure to visit the Christmas Shop.  And, if you are not staying at the Greenbrier, stop for a meal or do some shopping.

The train fare for one way is $32.00 or $64 for a round trip fare.  You can't beat the price.  Think about it...it takes four hours to drive to Washington, DC.  If you take the train, you can relax, eat, drink and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Rebecca - sounds like the way to go, especially at this time of year. I've heard great things about Whilte Sulfur Springs but have never been there.

Personally, I haven't taken a train ride for a long time - my longest was DC to Montreal many year ago, but have done a lot of commuting that way in past lives.

Jeff, I am looking forward to taking the train to DC, as it has also been awhile since I've been on a train.

Maybe you should have been the one promoting Chicago to the Olympic committee. Your vision of going there sounds a lot better than the way they described the vision they had of Chicago. With your discription, I would have even wanted to run a marathon over some of that land.
