If you haven't been to Historic Downtown Lewisburg on the first Friday of the month, you are missing out on some fun.
First Fridays after Five is a Lewisburg tradition and takes place all year long with shops, galleries and restaurants that stay open until 9 pm serving complimentary refreshments and entertainment. June 5th starts the summer with outdoor and indoor live music, artist receptions, fun and refreshments! The event, as always, is free to the public. Everyone is welcome!
Here are a few events going on, and remember to check out all the shops .... and enjoy the refreshments.
- Downtown Lewisburg's Green Space sets the stage for Izzy & Chris, the award winning West Virginia Blues Duo, who will be "Preachin' the Blues" from 6 pm to 9 pm. Izzy and Chris were the main stage performers at the 2006 West Virginia Blues Festival. You may also remember them from last year's Carnegie Hall Rhythm Blues and All That Jazz Festival. Izzy and Chris have performed with legends such as Buckwheat Zydeco, Watermelon Slim and The Blind Boys of Alabama. This is a free concert you will not want to miss!
- Studio 40 hosts an artist reception for Virginia painter Deborah Greene. Deborah is originally from the Midwest, but has lived in the Shenandoah Valley for 26 years, which provides her with inspiration for her stunning landscape oil paintings. 130 W. Washington Street, 647-4444.
- Plants Etc. presents Karen MacKay's West Virginia Traditional Music. Karen will wow you with her banjo talent! Stop by for great music and refreshments! 102 S. Jefferson Street, 645-6910.
- Visit Yarid's for Free Smashbox Cosmetic Make-Overs by make-up artists, Valerie and Christina from Charleston, WV. Let these experts introduce you to this wonderful line of foundation and color and show you a few tricks of the trade! 202 West Washington Street, 647-5000.
- In the spirit of First Friday, The Lewis Theatre offers complimentary popcorn for their evening movie goers from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. 113 Court Street, 645-6038.
- The Irish Pub welcomes the tunes of local Jimmy Costa from 5 pm to 8 pm, followed by Patrick O'Flaherty starting at 8:30 pm. 109 East Washington Street, 645-7386.
First Fridays After Five: You'll always find people out and about, young and old, going in and out of the shops. So come on .... You will find Lewisburg friendly and alive with music, food and laughter.
Downtown Lewisburg is just 2 miles south of I-64 via exit 169. The town center is located at Washington Street (I-60) and Jefferson Street (Rt. 219).

Sheldon :o)
Sheldon...it truly is a lot of fun. Families out strolling baby carriages, kids playing, music, and so much more. My brother visited on a Friday, and we went to town, and he could not believe all the people on the streets.
Great Localism post. We have a great tradition on First Thursdays in the SoCo Travis Heights area of town here in Austin!
That sounds like a lot of fun and it's a great local highlight.
Rebecca,
Sounds like a great way to spend the evening.
Ann Hayden in cool Wildwood, Missouri
Rebecca, I've not been to Lewisburg before; didn't know it existed until I joined AR.
I've been over that way, though, for HUD inspections before. If I get that way again, I'll plan to be there on the first Friday of the month.
Thanks for the info.
