Jeff Diehl, a well-known potter, lives in Summers County, in a small area called Meadow Bridge, WV. In 1980, Diehl and his wife, Donna, established Lockbridge Pottery by turning an abandoned country schoolhouse into a ceramic studio and home. Neighbors who had attended the school as children helped the Diehls remodel the beloved building. 'We have great neighbors,' says Diehl. 'They all went to school here. They have been invested in the care of the property and interested in our lives since we moved in.' Jeff says that Donna and their two sons, Erik and Andrew, help with the pottery.
In his more than 20-year career as a full-time potter, Diehl has developed both a thriving studio and a lifestyle as beautiful, unique, and functional as his pottery.

Jeff says "I was born with clay in my blood. My grandfather was a potter in New Jersey making mostly earthenware flower pots. He had clay shards everywhere which I quickly adopted as my own. My great grandfather was also a potter in Germany. His pottery was about an hour from where I studied there. I never really considered doing anything else but making pots. Most of my pots are functional, though I occasionally explore the non-funtional realm. I want my pots to be appealing to your hand, heart, and eye. I strive for beauty in function."

I've heard about Jeff Diehl's pottery since moving to Lewisburg in 2006. Some of my friends have purchased his pottery. As seen below, my friend has this one-of-a-kind, fish fossil table base...this is such an awesome piece!

I also liked the below platters. One on the left is a fun serving platter; and the platter on right can be used in the oven.

My friend suggested we drive to the Lockbridge Pottery and meet Jeff and see his studio. It was a beautiful day and we were lucky that Jeff was in his studio and welcomed us. He took time to talk with me about his pottery and I had the opportunity to take photos of his work. The below items are just a few that he has made for his home. The table base below are elephant legs he made for a beautiful table top a friend made for him; the second is the counter top and back splash he made for his kitchen. Unusual, unique, and amazing!

Of course, I just had to buy a piece of pottery before leaving. My purchase was this Shino Vase with Apple Ash 9"x4"x2". At $48, I thought it was a great price for this beautiful piece of pottery.
My next purchase will be a chip n' dip bowl. The dip goes in the top, and chips are in the middle ... I love this design where you reach into the bowl for the chips.
