Part 6, New Businesses in Lewisburg, WV | Biscuits & Bones
Biscuit & Bones is a gift shop for pets and their people too! The owners, Janice and Brian Mollet, opened their new business, Biscuit & Bones January 2011.
Bryan and Janice moved to West Virginia from Long Island, NY in 2010. In New York, they owned and operated a very large boarding kennel and grooming salon for 20 years. Janice has been a professional dog groomer, trainer, and has shown numerous different breeds in the show ring.
After selling their kennel and wanting to move to a more rural setting, they found a beautiful log home in Crawley, WV ..... with 20 acres for their six dogs, four cats, and two horses to roam. But after two years, they missed the interaction of dealing with people and their pets.
While visiting Lewisburg and all the town shops, Janice and Brian noticed that almost every shop they entered had a dog mascot. They realized that Lewisburg was a very dog-friendly town, and that Lewisburg needed a gift shop where people could show off their love for their pets. And, so Biscuit & Bones became a reality.Janice had been collecting art work and signage of different breeds her whole life, and half of the store has merchandise pet owners can purchase to show off their love of their pet.
A year before Biscuits & Bones opened, Brian adopted an Irish wolfhound, named Murphy.Murphy had many eating and digestive problems. So, Brian began cooking and baking for Murphy.Janice said, “Murphy loved the homemade biscuits, and the word spread through all our canine friends.”
The other half of Biscuits & Bones store is the “Barkery”, with a full kitchen. Janice says , "since Brian loves to be in the kitchen, he bakes fresh biscuits daily. Many of our local canine friends come in weekly for their stash of biscuits.”
From the Barkery kitchen:
1. Apple Cinnamon Biscuit
2. Carob Chip Biscuit
3. Cheesy Biscuit
4. Peanut Butter Biscuit

Part 4, New Businesses in Lewisburg, WV | Cosmic Cab Company
Lorrie Monte is originally from East Haddam, Connecticut, and has lived in Lewisburg for the past 30 years. Having been in the service industry for 35 years, Lorrie is comfortable serving the public. She was a waitress at the Stardust Cafe for a while, but was looking to start a business in Lewisburg that she could financially afford. While working at the Startdust Cafe, she noticed that Lewisburg was becoming a more popular tourist destination. (Of course, Lewisburg was voted "America's Coolest Small Town" by Budget Travel Magazine in 2011.)
Lorrie realized there was a niche to be filled in this small town. People were always asking about cab service. She started talking to businesses in town and found that financially starting a cab company was something she could do. "Mayor Manchester has been very supportive from the very beginning" says Lorrie.
So, in December, 2010....the Cosmic Cab Company was born! "After meetings with Mayor Manchester, and attending some town meetings, I was provided an area at the Greenspace for a cab stand in downtown Lewisburg," says Lorrie.
Lorrie and the employees of Cosmic Cab Company pride themselves on being safe, prompt, dependable and friendly.
Cosmic Cab Company fills a variety of transportation needs in the Lewisburg area:

Mark and Lee Gillespie have been collecting, researching and dealing in silver (sterling, continental and fine silver plate) for over thirty years with a concentration on the elegant dining of the Victorian Era. While Lee was an educator at Lewisburg and Greenbrier East High Schools in the arts, as well as a professional musician; Mark was following his goal to train as an Interior Designer at the Art Institutes of Fort Lauderdale and Pittsburgh.
Upon realizing their mutual interest in silver and antiques, they started exhibiting at finer antique shows throughout the East and Midwest and lead to the publication of their book “Personal Silver of the Victorian Age and Beyond”. They have traveled extensively with shows as far West as Kansas City, Kansas; as far South as Austin, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida and North including the New England states and Manhattan, New York.
Alexandria, Virginia was the home of their first antique store before relocating to Winchester, Virginia. A great deal of time was spent in Lewisburg helping their sisters and niece develop the business, TLP of West Virgina, Inc. (home of the Three Little Pigs Barbecue Sauce) leading to the idea of opening an antique store in Lewisburg, “Gillespie Brothers”. Reaching middle age, and caught in a dead-end job and a run-of-the-mill marriage, Becky meets a socially inept and grief-stricken millionaire and suddenly finds herself in a world of new choices - and new consequences.
"Playwright Steven Dietz's new production is a laugh-out-loud amusement-park ride where the comedy spins out of control like a bumper car. Becky’s New Car is witty and droll, with delicious deadpan humor and U-turn plot twists.” - Everett Herald.

This program is part of a program and advocacy group started by Nancy Zobel at The Tutoring Center on Lafayette Street in Lewisvburg! She and Erma Jean McKinney, a retired teacher, are the engines behind providing information and help to parents of children with special needs. They are especially focused on children with autism and other related issues.
The program for Saturday is to begin to bring alternative ideas on food choices with the long term goal of improving health and behavior to perhaps change lives one person at a time! Sherry Sutterby hopes to counsel families individually or in groups and provide additional workshops of interest. In October, she will conduct a program educating people on the dangers of chemicals in everyday cleaning products.
The monthly workshops are free and open to the public and focus on how parents can help their children be all that they can be in life.
