I never learned how to ski as a child. So, my husband planned a ski weekend at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort in West Virginia.
So, I had my first ski lesson when I was 35 and was practicing on the "bunny" trail. Needless to say, I was persuaded to go down one of the bigger trails. Now I was okay until we actually stood at the top and looking down....OMG, I was terrified. But, hey, down the slope I went....falling every five feet. Men, women, AND children were skiing right past me. It was not fun!
The one thing I learned to do VERY well......was how to get up after falling soooo many times...I was told that was the hardest part. Really!! I was so mad at myself for falling so much, I started to cry, then stopped and said this mountain is not going to beat me. To tell the truth I didn't think I would ever get to the bottom of the mountain. By the time I got to the bottom...about an hour later...no kidding....I was exhausted.
Needless to say, the next day I could hardly walk. My ankles were so swollen I couldn't get the ski boots on...not to mention my sore back, legs and yeah my butt. That, my friends, is the first and last time I put on a pair of skis.
Unlike me, if you like to ski...like most people around here, then Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort is the place to go. Snowshoe also provides ski lessons and guarantee you will ski top to bottom in two days, or your lessons are free.
Depending on your stay, there are several lodging accommodation options including Snowshoe hotels, condos, cabins, as well as private town homes to mountaintop chalets. Throughout the years, we have stayed at each of the accommodations, and found them all very nice.

Snowshoe has some great package deals, and are offering a $200.00 gift card when you stay four or more nights between February 15th and the end of the season, April 5.
Perhaps I should try this sport again.....nah, nada...no way!!!! I'll just watch from inside near the cozy fireplace, perhaps go shopping, or enjoy a total body rejuvenation at the Tuscan Spa and Salon. Sounds wonderful....
Snowshoe Mountain is located in the heart of Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Being one of the highest elevated counties in the East and set in the middle of the Monongahelia National Forest, Pocahontas County offers the perfect location for unmatched outdoor wilderness activities.
Happy Skiing at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort!
