The WVAR REALTOR® Institute presented two real estate classes to the Greenbrier Valley Board of Realtors (GVBR) on May 20, 21 and 22.
The first was an Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) Designation Course May 20 and 21 at the Fairfield Hotel in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Eleven agents received the training and are now ABR candidates.

The ABR class was presented by Linda Brant, Instructor, Ray Joseph, WVAR CEO and facilitated by Amy White, WVAR Education Director. - Marketing fundamentals
- Agency relationships
- Duties to clients and responsibilities to customers
- How relationships are established
- Steps involved in a buyer interview and counseling session
- The buyer representation agreement
- Offer though Accepted Contract
- Strategies for building a business

Not only did the instructors teach the class how to overcome objections and how to negotiate, but also provided tips for improving real estate business; the critical challenges that agents face; rules and standards that Realtors must follow, and suggestions on how to deliver key messages to buyers.

The second course presented was NAR’s Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR) Certification Class held on April 22 at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. The 138+ that attended this class were educated on the in’s and out’s of short sales and foreclosures. This class qualifies as an elective course for the ABR designation, state required continued education for West Virginia and Virginia, and Appraisal board continued education.
The NAR’s SFR is the only distressed property certification for real estate professionals recognized by the NAR. This course was specifically designed to show how the real estate practitioner can serve as a resource for sellers and buyers in the brokerage of distressed properties. Real estate professionals play an invaluable role in helping homeowners and home buyers navigate these transactions and, as a result, real estate professionals can help contribute to the real estate recovery in their markets.
The instructors were really great and made the three days very enjoyable. Now that I am an ABR candidate, I need to get busy and get my ABR designation!
