Lewisburg Homes and Garden Tour set for June 12
The 32nd Lewisburg, W. Va., Homes and Garden Tour is set for Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s tour features six homes in and around Lewisburg, Watts Roosts Vineyard and tea at the historic General Lewis Inn. The homes on this year’s tour include historic and contemporary properties.
The six homes that are featured on the tour provide an eclectic look at Lewisburg residences and its history.
The Oak Terrace Home, is a private residence owned by Trey and Marie Shelton now, but served as an inn and restaurant in a former life.

The restored George Lewis Home, owned by Philip and Tabatha Light, was built in 1838 west of town with views of the surrounding farms and valleys.

The McKinley-Gibson Home, a 1900s era farmhouse, features arts-and-crafts styling inside as well as extensive gardens outside.

The Welch-Bell Home, now owned by Richard and Judie Lewis, was built in 1834 and features much of its original construction and complementary additions.

The William Jenkins House, or Holt House, is another stately brick 1834 home now owned by Tess Barr. Antiques and collectibles throughout the home have as much history as the property itself.

History is yet to be made in the spacious and imaginative home of Carin and Tom White, which was built only a few years ago.

Watts Roost Vineyard will be open for tastings, a new addition to the tour this year.

Tea and cookies, a tradition of the tour, will be served at the General Lewis Inn from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
“All of the homes are unique and showcase the interests of their owners,” said Mary Lindquist, who is chairing the event with Janie Kirk. “We think that those who take the tour will find each home interesting and thoughtfully decorated to express the personalities of the people who live in these homes."

The Herns Mill covered bridge is on the way to or from the houses west of town on Route 60. This historic bridge (c.1884) provided access to the S.S. Herns mill and is one of only two covered bridges remaining in Greenbrier County.
The home and garden tour committee has made some changes that will make purchasing the $20 per person tickets more convenient for those who wish to tour the homes.
“We are offering tickets in advance through our local Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau and we also have special lodging rates at some of the local Lewisburg motels,” Janie Kirk said.
Tickets are available from garden club members and at the North House (301 West Washington Street/304-645-3398). On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the General Lewis Inn (301 East Washington Street/304-645-2600) and at any of the homes on the tour.
