Meeting Shelley Carbone, Mrs. America 2011, at the Greenbrier Resort; the Greenbrier to host the 35th Pageant

Shelley Carbone, Mrs. America 2011The reigning Mrs. America 2011, Shelley Carbone is a guest this weekend at The Greenbrier Resort.  I had the opportunity, along with other media, to meet and chat with the current Mrs. America at The Greenbrier today.   She is from Connecticut and is a registered nurse, wife and mother of four

I asked Shelley what made her participate in the pageant.  She said, "My mother was in the Mrs. Senior Pageant and was first runner up last year and is entering again this year.  It was my mother's idea that I should enter the Mrs. America Pageant and I had only three weeks to prepare for the contest. I was hesitant, but ultimately decided to participate for many reasons.  One of them, was to allow my children an opportunity to see me set a goal, work towards that goal and to see it through."

Shelley Carbone, Mrs. America 2011"I encourage women to get out of the kitchen and do something for themselves.  I have four children and I do it all....there's no nanny to help me.  It's good for the children to see their mother doing something for themselves, like setting and working towards a goal.  Winning the Mrs. America Pageant has been an incredible journey, not only for myself, but my family as well."   Read more on Mrs. America Pageant 2011.

The reigning Mrs. America let me hold her heavy crown before putting it on her head for the press photos.  Shelley Carbone is a beautiful, kind, smart and charming person who truly makes me proud of Mrs. America 2011.

The Mrs. America Pageant, celebrating its 35th anniversary, will be held at the Greenbrier March 31 - April 14.  This is the first time the event has been held on the East Coast and Shelley said it is her first time visiting West Virginia and The Greenbrier, and both are just beautiful.

Fifty-one delegates representing all US states and the District of Columbia will compete for the coveted title. Throughout their stay, the ladies will participate in a fashion show, charitable endeavor and numerous other activities, all culminating with the crowning ceremony on April 14.

This renowned national competition seeks to discover the most accomplished married women qualified to compete for the esteemed title. The contestants, ranging in age from the 20s to 50s, are each selected through their individual state competition, under the direction of Mrs. America State Directors.

The pageant will be nationally televised in prime time March 31 through April 14, 2011.
