The Greenbrier’s Restaurant, Prime 44 West, Unveils Private Label Trefethen

Prime 44 West restaurantNBA legend and West Virginia native Jerry West today unveiled the Prime 44 West private label wine selection, a Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon produced in California 's Napa Valley for The Greenbrier. The wine was selected by the West family in a blind tasting and is now featured on the Prime 44 West wine list and available for purchase at the resort.

Jerry West“We love Trefethen wines and think this Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect compliment to the Snake River Wagyu Tenderloin, Milk Fed Veal Chop, Colorado Double Lamb Chops and many of the other entrees on the menu,” said West. “Karen and I have been personally involved in the restaurant design and menu creation and we take pride in being a part of this incredible dining experience.”

This collaboration of American icons is a first for Trefethen. "When we were told that our 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was selected, we were both flattered and excited, but also just a bit hesitant. Though we receive many requests, we have resisted producing private label wines in the past, but felt very comfortable with the high level of passion and quality presented by The Greenbrier and Prime 44 West. The Trefethen family and our entire winemaking team are very proud of this wine and this exclusive program,” said Joseph Cusimano, vice president of sales for Trefethen Family Vineyards.

Trefethen wine at Prime 44 WestTrefethen, one of the few remaining family wine estates in the Napa Valley , offers numerous wines in their Signature, Reserve, Small Lot and Double T collections. Produced wholly with estate-grown crops, Trefethen Vineyards has never purchased a single grape outside estate holdings. Today, this third generation business farms 63 distinct vineyard blocks, encompassing nine different grape varieties (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Viognier), 10 different types of rootstock and 49 different clones (genetic variations of a grape variety), including 13 of Chardonnay and 10 of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Prime 44 West label, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, is also comprised of a smattering of other Bordeaux varietals. Heath Porter, The Greenbrier’s Wine Director, provided this description: “This wine is both elegant and powerful and leaves you begging for a pepper-crusted bone-in rib eye with a side of foraged wild mushrooms.”

The Greenbrier, long known for its commitment to culinary excellence, is in the process of expanding its wine program. “Our goal is to find the perfect wine for each venue in The Greenbrier Restaurant Collection, the Main Dining Room, Sam Snead’s at the Golf Club, The Forum and In-Fusion, exclusive to the setting and cuisine,” said Adam Greiner, director of food and beverage for the resort.

Visit the Greenbrier and enjoy a remarkable dining experience at the Prime 44 West and enjoy some Trefethen wines.
