Sunday, November 21st, was a warm, beautiful day for the Lewisburg merchants annual Holiday Open House Celebration. There were many festive activities for all, and of course a good time for Christmas shopping, or just making a list for Santa.
Seems everyone was out enjoying the day and the festivities. There was so much to do and see....starting with the Gingerbread House Contest (winners to be announced later) and having cookies and milk with Santa Claus.
Strolling down the street to

the Green Space, next to City National Bank, folks enjoyed watching chestnuts roasting and the best part was eating them.
Did you know.....Chestnuts have to soak in water for one hour before roasting them ....so yummy!

While eating chestnuts, folks enjoyed listening to Christmas songs by the Blue Ridge Blend Barbershop Quartet.

(Left to Right: Butch Hickman, Bass; Doug Hylton, Lead; Micah Spiece, Tenor; and Dave Nalker, Baratone.)
If one got tired of strolling..... then
Carriage rides were provided by Rodes Farms and available for those who wanted to take a ride through town.

The North House Museum's Christmas Over Time Exhibit and 1800s Make and Take Children's Ornament was a hit with the children. Pictured here are Tyler and Morgan Massie from Lewisburg with their hand-made tree ornament decoration.
I missed The Story of the Elf on the Shelf at the Sunflower Soul, but I am sure the children had a great time listening to this story. If you have children, this would be a great book and tradition to start this year. Read about the Elf on the Shelf: a Christmas tradition, it's a children's holiday book classic that comes with a magic elf who flies back to the North Pole each night to tell Santa who's been naughty or nice.
While visiting the Greenbrier Valley Visitor Center, one could hear the beautiful music of the The Chapel Ringers - Handbell Choir from the Lewisburg United Methodist Church.

And, later listen to a performance by Guitarist Bob Ducharme.
Throughout the downtown the Dickens Strolling Carolers were singing holiday songs. As a reminder, don't forget the Carolers will be performing the play..... "A Christmas Carol"

at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre December 3 through December 23. Get your tickets early by visiting or calling GVT at 304-645-3838.
All the shops provided holiday treats; and I'm sure like me, the children had a sugar high from all the delicious treats.
It was a fun-filled day celebrating holiday traditions, both new and old. I love it that folks brought their pets, and as you can see some were dressed for this holiday event.
If you missed the merchant's holiday open house in Lewisburg, you will still be able to enjoy some holiday festivities on First Friday, December 3rd. See you there!
