The Greenbrier's first annual Winterfest Celebration was held January 7-9. The centerpiece of the Winterfest Weekend was the National Ice Carving Association's sanctioned event held on the front lawn. Sixteen of the country’s best ice carvers, including several Olympic medal winners, competed for individual and team honors.
- On Friday, the talented carvers transformed a block of ice into their own creation.
- On Saturday, the team competition was eight, two-man teams that created sculptures from four blocks of ice in just five hours.
- On Sunday, individual competition featured 15 carvers designing their own magical masterpieces in four hours.
The below video provides some of the entries for Friday and Saturday. Since I could not make the Sunday event, there are no photos for Sunday's entries.
The Greenbrier's Snow Golf Event was definitely a challenge especially with the cold temperature, snow and wind...it was very chilly for the ice sculptors, golfers and skaters. They were more tolerant of the cold than me.
At the ice skating rink, I was very warm watching the West Virginia Synchro Team and standing near the fire pit that had a nice fire blazing. The man in the photo actually stepped inside the fire pit...of course, the flames were very low, but the heat from the pit felt wonderful.

There's always something going on at The Greenbrier. Check out the different packages the Greenbrier has to offer.
