How to Fly the American Flag!

An awesome video to see .. our American flag in the sky.

Via John Mosier (Keller Williams - Prescott - AZ):

Now this is THE WAY to FLY the AMERICAN FLAG!  I saw this video several months ago. I found it inspirational then and it still leaves me awestruck. It appears judging from the number of views that this video is not well known.  A lot more people would enjoy seeing it. It looks like they did a pretty good job on flag etiquitte at the end of the video.

With what is going on in our country now we need all the inspiration we can get!

Do You Know What a Teacher Makes?

Bonnie RobertsI have a friend that worked really hard to become a teacher, something she has wanted to do for a very long time.  Bonnie Roberts was our office manager at Coldwell Banker Stuart and Watts in Lewisburg, WV.   Bonnie worked hard doing the day, and on weeknights and weekends she obtained her B.A. in Education and now teaches in Princeton, WV., grades 6 and 7.   She makes special needs children feel they can achieve goals that many would think impossible, and they do.  The below story is something that Bonnie Roberts would definitely say as a teacher.....

What a Teacher Makes

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.  One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education.  He argued, 'What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?'   He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: 'Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.'  To emphasize his point he said to another guest; 'You're a teacher, Christine. Be honest. What do you make?'

Christine, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, 'You want to know what I make?   (She paused for a second, and then began...)  'Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.  I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor.  I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for five without an I-Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.

You want to know what I make?' (She paused again and looked at each and every
person at the table.)

''I make kids wonder.  I make them question.  I make them apologize and mean it.  I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.   I teach them to write and then I make them write.  Keyboarding isn't everything.  I make them read, read, read.  I make them show all their work in math. They use their God-given brain, not the man-made calculator.  I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity.  I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.

I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we live in the United States of America.  I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.'

(Christine paused one last time and then continued.)  'Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.  You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE..........What do you make, Mr. CEO?'

His jaw dropped, he went silent.
...........................................................

My personal THANK YOU to ALL the teachers of our children.

The "W" in Christmas

The "W" in Christmas

The following is a story about a Kindergarten's Winter Pageant............I do not know the author of this story, but what a great message to spread.

Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience.

I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending.

Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the
precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas.

My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year.  It was an exciting season for a six year old.

For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant."

I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher.. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation.

All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then.

Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.

school pageantSo, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats.

As I waited, the students were led into the room.. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song.

Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer.

So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title.

Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads.

Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song.

As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love."

The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W".

The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W".

Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.

A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen.

In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.

For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:

"C H R I S T W A S L O V E"

And, I believe, He still is.

Pink Glove Dance for Breast Cancer Awareness

Emily Somers created, directed and choreographed this video in Portland for her Medline glove division as a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness.  This was all her idea to help promote their new pink gloves.  I don't know how she got so many employees, doctors and patients to participate, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center...you can see in the video they all had a lot of fun making the video.

Via Missy Caulk-Ann Arbor- Realtor(R)- Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams-Ann Arbor):

This is a great video on Breast Cancer Awareness.

Take a few minutes and enjoy the real employees dance the Pink Glove Dance.

Did they think it would go viral?

Probably not...but it has.

God Made His Own Birthday Cake out of Snow

Our friends, Mickey and Hobart McCoy were away when it started snowing here in Lewisburg, West Virginia.   When they returned home today look what they found on their deck.   A perfect image of a cake made of snow.

With the blizzard this week, God made his own cake.    Mickey added the red candles to the snow cake.

The East coast definitely got a lot of snow this weekend.  The news stated that this was "one of the worst US blizzards in decades".  Well, West Virginia had its fair share of snow.  It started to snow on Friday, and today (Sunday), the sun is shining and it is so beautiful....my Winter Wonderland
